Background

The Pann Pyoe Lett Foundation (PPLF) was established in 2013 to honor the legacy of the late Mrs. Alice Mundhenk, who pioneered the introduction of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) in Myanmar in 1997. After her passing, her colleagues—experienced ECCD trainers and experts in the Child-Centered Approach (CCA)—founded the Alice Early Childhood Resource Centre (AECRC) to carry forward her vision of child-focused education and development.

In 2015, to meet government registration requirements, AECRC transitioned to its Myanmar name, Pann Pyoe Lett Foundation, and was officially recognized as a non-governmental social organization in 2017 (Registration No. (Domestic)/0463). Since then, PPLF has continued to build on Mrs. Mundhenk’s principles, striving to address the gaps in early childhood education and resources across Myanmar.

From its earliest days, PPLF has focused on Early Childhood Care and Development, gradually expanding its efforts to include children’s rights and women’s empowerment. With decades of combined expertise, the foundation has developed children’s books, created low-cost teaching aids, trained ECCD instructors, and supported parents in fostering a nurturing learning environment.

Today, PPLF works closely with communities, government institutions, and international partners to ensure its programs are impactful and sustainable. Guided by a commitment to equity and resilience, the foundation continues to empower children and women by improving access to quality education, healthcare, and sustainable opportunities—creating pathways toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
